This Privacy Policy describes how FlashQuizAI ("the App," "we," "us," or "our"), developed and operated by Sleeping Owl Studios, handles information in connection with your use of the App. We are committed to being transparent about our data practices.

1. Our Core Commitment: No Personal Data Collection

FlashQuizAI does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personally identifiable information (PII) about you.

We do not require you to create an account. We do not ask for your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, location, or any other personal identifier. We have no user database, no account system, and no means by which to identify who you are.

2. Information Stored Locally on Your Device

All App state and preferences are stored exclusively on your device. This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 4 (AI Query Data).

2.1 App Settings (UserDefaults)

The following non-personal settings are saved locally using Apple's standard UserDefaults storage:

None of these values identify you personally.

2.2 Quiz History (SwiftData / Local Database)

When you complete a quiz, the following data is saved to a local database on your device:

  • Topic name (as you entered it)
  • Difficulty level
  • Number of questions, correct answers, and incorrect answers
  • Score percentage
  • Date and time of the session

This data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework in the App's private sandbox on your device. It is not transmitted to us or any third party. It is only used to display your quiz history within the App.

Deleting the App permanently removes all locally stored quiz history.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

To be explicit, FlashQuizAI does not collect or have access to any of the following:

  • Your name, email, phone number, or any account information
  • Your device's precise location
  • Your contacts, calendar, photos, camera, or microphone
  • Analytics or crash telemetry from within the App itself
  • Advertising identifiers (IDFA/IDFV)
  • Behavioral tracking data or usage analytics
  • Cookies or cross-app tracking

4. AI Query Data — Topics and Custom Prompts

4.1 What Is Sent to the Server

When you start a quiz, the following information is transmitted over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our backend server in order to generate your quiz questions:

  • The topic you entered
  • Your selected difficulty level
  • The number of questions requested
  • Your custom prompt (if provided)
  • A session identifier (a randomly generated, non-personal alphanumeric string)

This data is sent to our AI-powered backend, which uses it to instruct a large language model (LLM) to generate relevant quiz questions. We do not associate this data with your identity in any way, as there is no user account or identifier that links a quiz session to a real person.

4.2 ⚠️ Critical Warning: Do Not Enter Personal Information

WARNING: Never enter personal, sensitive, or confidential information into the topic field or custom prompt.

When you submit a topic or custom prompt, that text leaves your device and is transmitted to Sleeping Owl Studios' backend servers, where it is then forwarded to third-party large language model (LLM) providers for processing. You should treat these fields exactly like a public internet search — assume anything you type could be seen, logged, or stored by external systems.

Specific risks include:

  • Third-party AI processing: Your input is processed by external AI systems that Sleeping Owl Studios does not own or directly control. Those providers operate under their own privacy policies, which may permit logging, storing, or analyzing submitted text.
  • Potential use in AI training: Depending on the underlying model provider's policies (which may change without notice), your submitted text could be used to improve or retrain AI models.
  • No end-to-end encryption at the application layer: While all communication uses standard HTTPS/TLS transport encryption, custom prompts and topics are not additionally encrypted at the application layer before being processed by AI systems.
  • Loss of control once transmitted: Once data leaves your device, Sleeping Owl Studios cannot guarantee, audit, or control how it is handled by downstream AI systems, model providers, or infrastructure components.
  • Inadvertent incorporation: AI models may inadvertently incorporate submitted personal information into responses, logs, or model state in ways that are unpredictable and outside our control.

Do not include any of the following in quiz topics or custom prompts:

  • Your name, address, phone number, or email
  • Passwords, PINs, or security credentials
  • Financial account details or credit card numbers
  • Private medical, psychological, or health information
  • Confidential business or legal information
  • Any information about identifiable third parties without their consent

Sleeping Owl Studios expressly disclaims all liability for any disclosure, exposure, misuse, unauthorized access, or mishandling of personal or sensitive information that you choose to include in quiz topics or custom prompts. By using the App, you assume full and sole responsibility for all content you submit.

4.3 ⚠️ Disclaimer on AI-Generated Content

AI-generated quiz questions and answers must not be treated as factual, verified, or authoritative information. They may be incorrect, misleading, incomplete, or outdated. Nothing generated by the App constitutes a recommendation or professional advice of any kind. Any reliance on quiz content is entirely at your own risk. For full details, see the Terms of Service.

4.4 Server-Side Data Handling

Our backend server processes incoming quiz requests transiently to generate responses. We do not build user profiles based on quiz topics. Server-side logs, if any, are maintained solely for operational and security purposes (e.g., detecting abuse or diagnosing errors) and are not used for targeted advertising, data brokering, or user profiling.

5. In-App Purchases and Apple

All purchases within FlashQuizAI (premium subscription and Sparks Packs) are handled exclusively by Apple's App Store payment infrastructure. We do not process payments directly and do not receive your payment card details, Apple ID, or billing information.

Apple collects and processes payment data under their own privacy policy. Please review Apple's Privacy Policy at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/ for details on how they handle your purchase information.

When a purchase is completed, Apple's StoreKit framework notifies the App of a verified, cryptographically signed transaction. The App reads the product identifier from this transaction to add Sparks to your local balance. No billing details are ever exposed to the App.

⚠️ Important: Your Sparks balance is stored locally on your device only. Because no user data is collected or stored on our servers, if you delete the App, your Sparks balance will be permanently and irreversibly lost. Sparks Packs are consumable in-app purchases that cannot be restored. We strongly recommend against uninstalling the App if you have a meaningful Sparks balance.

6. Children's Privacy

FlashQuizAI is rated 9+ on the Apple App Store and is appropriate for users aged 9 and above. Users between the ages of 9 and 12 should use the App only with the consent and supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without verifiable parental consent, in accordance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and applicable international law. Because the App does not collect any personal information from any user (see Section 1), it is generally compliant with these requirements by design. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has submitted personal information through a quiz topic or custom prompt, please contact us immediately.

7. Game Center

FlashQuizAI optionally integrates with Apple Game Center to report achievements you unlock while using the App.

7.1 What Is Shared with Game Center

If you are signed in to Game Center on your device and authentication succeeds, the App will:

  • Authenticate silently using your existing Apple Game Center account via Apple's GameKit framework
  • Report achievement completion events (e.g., "completed 10 quizzes") to Game Center using the achievement identifiers defined in Apple's system

The App does not read your Game Center profile, friends list, leaderboard data, or any other Game Center information. The data flow is one-way: the App only reports achievement progress to Game Center; it does not retrieve personal information from Game Center.

7.2 Game Center Identity

The App does not access, store, or transmit your Game Center alias, Apple ID, or any other identifier associated with your Game Center account. Authentication is handled entirely by the GameKit framework provided by Apple.

7.3 Offline or Unauthenticated Use

Game Center is entirely optional. If you are not signed in to Game Center, or if authentication fails, the App functions normally. Locally unlocked achievements are stored on your device and synced to Game Center the next time authentication succeeds.

7.4 Apple's Privacy Policy

Game Center data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, available at https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/. We do not control how Apple stores or uses Game Center data on their servers.

8. Push Notifications

FlashQuizAI may request permission to send you local notifications to remind you when your daily question credits have refilled (at 12:00 pm in your local time zone).

  • All notifications are scheduled locally on your device. No data is transmitted to Apple's servers or our servers in connection with these notifications. There is no notification device token, no remote notification service, and no external network request involved.
  • Notification permission is entirely optional. If you decline the initial permission prompt, no notifications will be sent. You can enable or disable reminders at any time from the Notifications section of the App's Settings screen or from your device's iOS Settings.
  • No personal data is included in notifications. Notification content is a fixed message set by the App and contains no information about you, your usage, or your account.

9. Other Third-Party Services

FlashQuizAI does not integrate with third-party advertising networks, analytics providers, or social media platforms. The only external services the App communicates with are:

  • Our AI backend server — as described in Section 4
  • Apple's App Store and StoreKit — for purchase verification and subscription management (see Section 5)
  • Apple Game Center — for achievement reporting (see Section 7)
  • Apple's local notification system — for on-device daily reminders (see Section 8)

10. Data Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect data in transit (HTTPS/TLS encryption for all network communication with our backend). However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security of data transmitted over the internet.

As noted in Section 4.2, you are responsible for the content of any topics or prompts you submit. Do not include sensitive information in these fields.

11. Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data (settings, credits, Sparks balance, quiz history) is stored on your device until you delete the App. Uninstalling the App permanently removes all locally stored data, including your Sparks balance which cannot be recovered.
  • AI query data (your submitted topic, difficulty, and prompt) is processed transiently by our backend. We do not maintain long-term records linking quiz requests to individuals.
  • We have no mechanism to delete specific quiz sessions on your behalf, as we do not retain them in association with your identity.

12. Your Rights

Because we do not collect personal data, most data subject rights (access, correction, deletion under GDPR, CCPA, etc.) are satisfied by the fact that no personal data is held by us. For any questions about your data:

  • Your quiz history is entirely under your control. You can delete quiz history directly within the App's History view, or by deleting the App.
  • Your preferences and credits can be reset by deleting the App.

If you believe we hold personal data about you or have concerns about your privacy, please contact us (see Section 14).

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this document. Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of the revised policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
